Thank you for your
interest in our guided goose hunts. At Traditions, our specialty is
Canada Goose Hunting. We have been at it for a very long time and it is
what we personally like to pursue. We work very hard to combine the best
locations and equipment will our skills to land geese in the decoys. What are your prices? We charge $150.00 per hunter with a minimum of three hunters. How long have you been in business? This will be our second year in business. Each one of our guides is at least 35 years old has been hunting in this area for at least twenty years. Our group of guides is very experienced and knowledgeable about Canada Goose Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware. What time do we leave in the morning? We try to accommodate our hunters as best we can. Waterfowl hunting has always been an early morning adventure. We prefer to be in the blind and set up fifteen minuets prior to legal shooting time (1/2 hour before sunrise). Depending upon travel time and the number of decoys we will use, we can meet anywhere between 2 hours to 35 minutes before legal shooting time. We do have some properties that see a predictable flight of geese that start an hour after sunrise. We will let you pick the start time, but highly recommend an early start. When is the best time to come? We start getting good numbers of geese as early as late October. Late November and Early December dates are usually the best time for Canada geese and slow towards the close of the season in late January. Do you hunt everyday of season? No, Sunday hunting is illegal in Maryland and Delaware. We also like to rest our properties for at least three days before a hunt. By limiting the number of days we hunt each week, it allows the geese time to get comfortable with their surroundings and they stay in our area longer. Do you hunt all day? We hunt as late as noon, if necessary. By leaving early, it not only allows for the geese to get back in the area, it also allows our guides to get their equipment prepared for the next day. Do you have a special program for corporate or large groups? Yes, please call for additional questions. What size groups do you hunt? Our maximum number of goose hunters is five. We feel like this is an ideal group size. Groups that meet the minimum (3)will be hunted as a group by themselves. Please contact Traditions for smaller group accommodations. We may be able to combine two small parties to meet the minimum. If you do not wish to join another small party, it will be necessary to pay the minimum group rate. What about your lodge facilities? Please check our lodging page for details. Do you have blinds at all the hunting locations? In approximately half of our fields we use 12 or 16 foot, buried pits for geese. Most of the smaller fields we will use A-frames or Final Approach Layout blinds. This lets us adjust to the bird's flight patterns or weather conditions. We do not hunt from boats. Do you guarantee a limit? No, all birds we hunt are wild, thus Mother Nature and your shooting ability play important roles in hunting. However, we do everything within our legal rights and ability to provide you with the opportunity to bag your birds. Do you hunt on public Land? No, Maryland does not permit guided hunts on public land. The state Wildlife Management Areas (WMA's) are reserved for the public. All of our fields and water blinds are private ground and leased for the entire hunting season. How much walking is involved? We hunt geese using three different types of rigs. The first is a below ground pit in a very large field surrounded full body decoys. If the fields are very wet, we typically rely our mobile rigs. We will use this in a large field with a pit or an A-frame blind. We also have a 16 foot enclosed trailer with ten dozen Dave Smith decoys and Final Approach layout blinds. We use the larger Eliminators if you have trouble shooting from the very low profile X-lander's. We will also drive the smaller trailer in the field if it is not too wet. There is very little work putting out this rig and can be handled by your guide. If you have special needs or limited walking and/or standing ability, just tell us and we should be able to accommodate you without any problem. What is your dog policy? We welcome the use of trained retrievers, but tell us at the time of booking. Many of our guides hunt with their own dogs so we must know in advance. We don't discourage our clients from bring a well trained dog on a field hunt. Where do we meet? We can meet you anywhere in the morning including your hotel or in the field. How do I get my license? You must supply your own license. Additional information is available online at www.dnr.state.md.us. How does the bird processing work? We can arrange to have your birds picked and/or packaged for travel for an additional charge. If you would like birds shipped to your home, you need to furnish a cooler and you will be responsible for the shipping cost for next day air shipments. Be warned, it is expensive.
